Traditional Uses: One of Copaiba Balsam’s first recorded uses as a medicine by Western scientists was for the prevention of infections of the umbilical cord in newborns. It's use in 17th century Europe was as an antiseptic wound healer, though it was also used for a number of other conditions including coughs, scurvy, bacterial/viral illnesses and intestinal complaints. It is said that Native warriors of the Amazon would rub the raw resin over their bodies after tribal conflicts to help their wounds to heal.
