What are Essential Oils? The term “essential oil” is an abbreviation of the term “quintessential oil.” It dates back to the Aristotelian idea that all things are comprised of earth, air, fire, water, and life force. Distillation and evaporation were processes thought to isolate the life force from plants. In modern times we know, of course that these essential oils also contain complex and volatile chemical compounds which give the plants their characteristic odors. Today, essential oils are most often obtained through distillation (steam, steam/water and water) or expression (also known as cold pressing). There are also a limited number of oils obtained by a process known as maceration/distillation.

What are your QUALITY STANDARDS?We sell ONLY 100% pure, natural, unadulterated essential oils. The active therapeutic constituents of each of our essential oils are verified using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS). We are happy to share GC-MS reports from our oils upon request. We feel it is important to avoid the use of terms such as “therapeutic grade” and “grade A” as there are no standardized measures in place to grade essential oils. While there are no quality standards, we have spent time exploring the global marketplace to offer you oils of the finest therapeutic quality. We source our oils from distilleries around the world, and sell direct-to-consumer (rather than through a multi-level marketing enterprise.) We continually network, sample, and explore the marketplace in search of new and unique oils. Integrity and transparency are among our highest priorities. Tree of India Aromatherapy is a business member of the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA.) Our company’s goals are aligned with NAHA’s goals to: Promote and disseminate aromatherapy education to the public. Encourage the development of high standards of education that promote well-trained professional aromatherapy practitioners. Promote and increase awareness of issues surrounding aromatic plant sustainability. Strengthen the network of support and communication between aromatherapy practitioners and business owners nationally and internationally. Foster high standards of ethics and integrity in the education and the practice of clinical/holistic aromatherapy. Promote cooperation between clinical/holistic aromatherapy practitioners and other health care providers.
